Move the phone away from magnets and metal, keep it still during automatic calibration, and then bring the top of the phone slowly toward a nearby ferromagnetic object. Sensor strength and range vary by device. The app cannot identify precious metals or detect every object.
It reports a magnetic-field change that could come from metal or energized wiring. It does not identify the source. Check carefully with suitable professional equipment before drilling.
Camera Mode needs camera permission and a device with a working camera. Open iOS Settings, select Metal Detector, and allow Camera access. Captures are kept in the app; use the save action to add a photo to Photos.
Measurements and Camera Mode captures are stored locally in the app. The app does not sync them to our servers. Items saved to Photos are managed in the Photos app.
